This is the best on record In a six days' go-as-you-please ever made. The greatest distance ever traveled before in a six days' goas-you-please was 566 miles and 63 yards, which teat was accomplished by Rowell last November In London.

Before this, in April, 1880, Hart at Gilmore's Garden went 563 miles and 440 yards, Hart completed his distance during the 141st hour, and Rowell walked until nearly the end of his 142d hour, whereas Hughes made his 566 miles and 380 yards at the close of the 138th hour. Hughes, who is an Irishman by birth, will be remembered as a contestant in a walking match at the Baltimore Academy of Music some time ago, and whilst one of the winners neither the time he made or manner of walking attracted favorable comment. The records of the other men who heid out to the end in the New York match were: Albert 558 miles, Vint 550, Krohne 530, Howard 515, Campana 425.
