The Senior Director, Transformative Philanthropy and Campaign Communications, will report to the Associate Vice President, Transformative Philanthropy and Campaign Communications, and will play a key role in developing proposals, cases for support and other communications to engage individuals with the potential to make major, principal and transformative gifts.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished writer and editor, and a proven strategic thinker. This individual should be a responsive, positive and amiable collaborator, who is comfortable interviewing System leaders, physicians and scientists and strategizing with senior-level gift officers. The Senior Director should be experienced creating a variety of donor-centric communications materials and familiar with brand/identity development, integrated communication programs, digital communications and effective graphic design. Experience in health care, higher education or other large, complex organizations is required, as is a high comfort level writing about medical and scientific subjects.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • In consultation with fundraisers and senior leaders, write proposals and other solicitation materials to support major, principal and transformative gift conversations and solicitations.
  • Write letters, impact reports, presentations materials, leave-behinds and other materials to help cultivate and steward our highest-level prospects and donors.
  • Collaborate with senior philanthropy staff and enterprise leaders to develop white papers about key programs/projects in need of significant philanthropic support.
  • Conduct thoughtful interviews with enterprise leaders, scientists, clinicians, program directors, graduate students, donors and administrators to support content development.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for gift officers, assisting with their development of effective communications strategies.
  • Collaborate with team members, including graphic designers and project manager, to ensure creative and administrative follow through on all assignments.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 3 years of relevant experience may substitute for educational requirements.
  • 5+ years in philanthropy communications, institutional communications, nonprofit communications, donor relations and/or philanthropy.
  • Experience working in philanthropy communications in a complex medical or academic development setting is preferred.
  • Strong portfolio of writing and editing samples that demonstrate facility with fundraising projects. Excellent command of language, grammar, spelling, with a good eye for detail.
  • Team-building skills and the ability to relate comfortably to leadership, faculty members, administrators, and staff.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $56.31 - $94.04 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
