College of Southern Idaho men's basketball signed Jalen Lyn on Tuesday. Lyn, a 6-foot-3 guard from Queens, New York, attended Hillcrest Prep this past season and Tennessee Prep in Memphis during the 2022-23 school year.

"It means a lot to me knowing that I got a clear mind and a college that I'm going to to prepare myself to get to the next level," Lyn told theTimes-News.

The No. 29 point guard in the class of 2024 according to 247 Sports, Lyn is the second Hillcrest Prep player in CSI’s 2024 recruiting class, joining KJ Morrast.

Morrast played on the post grad team while Lyn played on the varsity high school team.

Lyn's squad went 33-3 on a loaded schedule against some of the nation's top prep teams.

"Iron sharpens iron," he said. "Just getting out there playing against the best with the best, it was just a great experience."

Lyn also marks the program’s fourth announced signing, joining Morrast, BYU transfer Tanner Hayhurst and Hillcrest High School alumnus Cooper Kesler.

The first group of CSI's incoming 2024-25 men's players could be viewed as a microcosm of modern college basketball. Experienced. Not a fresh out of high school player.

'A pretty seamless fit': BYU transfer Hayhurst excited for opportunity at CSI

With his size, Hayhurst is used to playing a small forward, guard/forward role and the Golden Eagles are replacing almost all their production in the guard and small forward spots.

None of the three announced College of Southern Idaho men's basketball signees will arrive straight from high school. Two served religious missions and Kenneth Morrast attended a prep school.

"Jalen gives us one of the more talented point guards in the country," CSI head coach Jeff Reinert said in a press release. "What I love about Jalen is his steady demeanor on the floor and height which will allow us to do things defensively that can create problems for our opponents. This gives us a third guard that should give us a potential starter and one of the best in the country."

Lyn, a three-star recruit, per 247 Sports, chose CSI over offers from Florida International, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Manhattan, Bethune Cookman, Central Arkansas and Boston.

Lyn said CSI will allow him to make an immediate impact as a freshman rather which contributed to his JUCO decision rather than a Division I program.

Lyn averaged 18 points, six assists and five rebounds per game for Hillcrest Prep and 22 points, eight rebounds and four assists for Tennessee Prep.

CSI graduated 10 sophom*ores and all five starters from last year.

Both members of the starting backcourt, Asim Jones and Jaylon Johnson, signed to play at NCAA Division I schools, Florida International and Tennessee Tech, respectively.

“I can’t wait to get on the court out there, for sure. Finally put on a Florida International jersey so it definitely feels good.”

"I feel like CSI is a great place," Lyn said. "Just knowing coach Reinert's pedigree and the amount of guards he has sent to the Division I level."

Lyn said CSI fans expect a player who plays above the rim and scores from all corners of the floor, including explosive dunks.

"I'm excited to be a Golden Eagle," he said. "The fans are really looking forward to this season to a lot of winning. Just great energy all-around."
