GARA Greystones will hold its usual monthly coffee morning on Friday, May 31, in Kilian House, behind Holy Rosary Church from 10:30am to 12pm. Julie from Citizens Information in Bray will be along to let the group know how they can help with grants and assistance.

Danns Gigs

The only live music in Greystones is back in May at Danns, with The Mile High Club on the 31st, Steve Belton’s Mojo Sessions kick off June on the 7th, Conor & Brian are there on the 14th, Jonny Rayge lad is back on the 21st and Woodsy brings his pals over on June 28th.

Irish GOA Day

The annual Irish Goa Day takes place in Burnaby Park, Greystones, from 11am to 7pm on Saturday, June 1. Expect some fab entertainment, dance performances, kids’ area, spot prizes, raffles and some seriously good food.

Scrabble

Greystones Library has started a Scrabble club which meets every Friday afternoon from 2-4 pm. Please ring the library on 01 2873548 if you wish to join.

Signal exhibition

Paola Iocavone’s exhibition will showcase works with the motifs of flowers ‘because flowers are nature’s biggest show-offs’. Her paintings are all in oils and depict the Magical Realism realm from which she draws inspiration. Runs at Signal Arts Centre, Bray, until Sunday, June 9.

Bray Bowling

The new Summer League season is in full swing at Bray Bowling Club. The summer season, April-September, is the highlight of the inter club competitions. Bray Bowling Club will compete across all divisions, with 10 teams entered, with play on Saturday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Open mic

El Troubadours Open Mic Night takes place in Butler & Barry, Strand Road, Bray, 8-10 p.m. every Wednesday.

Everyone is welcome to either come along and join in the singing (and a bit of dancing) or simply enjoy the music on the evening as it unfolds with the gathered musicians.

Bray Cloud 9

‘Unity in the community’ is the motto of the Bray Cloud 9 team, who run the furniture and bric-a-brac store on Quinnsborough Road, to support local causes. Drop in and have a browse.

Trip to Knock

Enniskerry Parish is organising a trip to Knock which will take place on Saturday August 17.

If 25 people sign up, the cost will be €74 per person. This will include the coach, coffee and scones on the way down and a 4-course meal on the way back. If you would like to join please let Aideen know as soon as possible at 086-8182241.

Garda clinic

The community policing clinic is held every Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Kilcoole Community Centre.

The clinic is there for members of the public to drop in and for crime prevention advice, to get help with forms, such as passports stamped and driving licences, as well as other Garda services that can be attended to. Feel free to drop in and no appointment is needed.

Purple House Cancer Support provides a range of professional support services to people of all ages. It has a wide range of classes and programmes available both in person and remotely through its Purple House at Home Service.

Bray Active Retirement

Bray Active Retirement holds monthly meetings on the first Friday of the month in the Little Flower Hall at 10.30 a.m.

Membership is open to retired men and women aged 50 years and over.

The association offers a range of activities, including holidays, creative activities, learning programmes and sporting pursuits. Membership details are available at the Good Neighbour Mornings, Little Flower Hall, Holy Redeemer Parish, first Friday of the month at 10.30 a.m. (September to June).

Open Door Day Centre

The Open Door Day Centre operates Monday to Friday on Vevay Road, Bray.

Open Door provides facilities and activities for adults with physical disabilities as a result of multiple sclerosis, stroke, motor neurone disease, spina bifida, road accidents and others. The purpose-built centre offers easy access to the various activities within the building. The centre also provides carers and their families with a well-deserved break during the week. Open Door is celebrating 40 years of supporting adults with physical disabilities.

Sanctuary Runners

The Bray Sanctuary Runners ‘Walk and Talk’ group meets at 7pm at Queen of Peace Church car park, Putland Road, Bray, on the last Thursday of the month. If a run is more your thing, the group meets at The Esplanade Hotel, Saturdays at 11.30am.

WH Five Loaves

Wicklow Homeless Five Loaves drop-in day centre on Main Street, Bray welcomes volunteers from all walks of life. Volunteers and their contributions are key to its success and without them it would not achieve its objectives.

W.H. Five Loaves promotes the participation of student volunteers and although it is only short term it can be a meaningful experience, so get in touch if you wish to participate. Call 01 204 0960.

Poetry in the Park

Takes place on the first Sunday of every month, 12pm on the bandstand in the People’s Park, Lower Dargle Road, Bray.

Lakers’ volunteers

Lakers supports adults and children with intellectual disabilities and runs over 60 activities a week for its 400 members.

Its centre is open six days a week and is supported by over 160 volunteers.

Volunteers are encouraged to take part in training opportunities within Lakers, Special Olympics Ireland and various sports bodies.

Ecotrail race 2024

The date has been confirmed for the Ecotrail event. This year, it will take place on Saturday, September 28, with the starting/end point once more being Bay seafront. Registration open at wicklow.ecotrail.com

Plaza Market

The Greystones harbour Plaza market returns on Saturday, June 2, for the summer months and the line up is looking pretty impressive already. Lots of your favourites from last year and a few newbies to add to the mix.

Purple House Concert

Takes place in the Cornerstone Church in the Well, Bray, at 7.30pm (doors open at 6.30pm) on Sunday June 2 with Kathy Kelly and featuring the Beating Time choir. The concert is in aid of Purple House Cancer Support Bray. Tickets, €30, can be obtained on Eventbrite.

Cuala Bridge Club, Dargle Bridge Club and East Coast Bridge Club all play in The Open Door Daycare Centre on Vevay Road. Bray.

The free CARA Care and Repair service provides a friendly, reliable small jobs service for older people living in the Bray and north Wicklow areas.
